Chrono Odyssey Developer Interview Reveals Tons of New Info

The Chrono Odyssey team recently released a developer interview, going into detail on some aspects of the game ahead of the closed beta test. Quite a bit of new information was revealed and if you missed it, or just don’t have the time to watch the video, we’ve got you covered!

Chrono Odyssey Dev Interview Highlights

The video focuses on Chrono Odyssey’s executive producer Sangtae running through major design decisions, and revealing a ton of new information along the way! You can catch the video below, or read on to see our highlights.

Lore and Core Mechanics

The video covers some lore and core mechanics of Chrono Odyssey, including:

  • The game is set in Setera, where past and future worlds collide.
  • Chrono Odyssey is an open world MMO with no (or very limited) loading screens.
  • The game’s focus is on discovery and exploration.

Chrono Odyssey Chronotector Features

There is a brief overview of how the game’s unique mechanic, the Chronotector, will work:

  • You can use the Chronotector to see the past or future.
  • The Chronotector can open up new paths to discover routes that aren’t always visible.
  • The Chronotector allows you to find new quests and diverge from the main storyline.

Game Features: Chrono Gates, Trials, Labyrinths, and Region Bosses

A few of the core game features were also revealed! They are:

  • Chrono Gates – These are 1v1 battles against void creatures (large bosses). They are very Dark Souls-esque, requiring learning and reading attack patterns to defeat.
  • Trials – These are special areas that allow you to travel across time and space, facing puzzles, traps, random mechanics, with a new experience every run.
  • Labyrinths – These are “a break from combat”. Areas which include exploration, jumping puzzles, and other non-combat activities. They feature special treasures.
  • Region Bosses – These are large bosses in the open world. They require multiple 5-man groups to take down.

Combat and Levelling

The devs also revealed some very detailed information about combat and leveling:

  • Most activities grant experience. In fact, you can hit max level just by gathering and grinding!
  • Combat includes a dodge and parry system. It is inspired by games like Dark Souls, where some fights are possible without taking a single point of damage.
  • The game utilizes a Weapon Swap System. However, it goes beyond just having multiple weapons to decide a class. It encourages swapping weapons mid fight, potentially for powerful combos.

Class Roles & Group Play

Some details have been revealed about class roles, specifically, how they differ from traditional MMOs:

  • The game breaks away from traditional healer/tank/dps roles and requiring specific skills and items for those roles.
  • Tanks and healers are designed to be able to progress independently, alongside doing their roles when in a party.
  • The game focuses on 5-man endgame and is built for “smaller scale play”.
  • Trading and PvP will exist!

That about wraps it up. As you can see, there were plenty of new Chrono Odyssey details here and we’re more excited than ever to get our hands on the game!
